I'm very very sorry to hear of your loss, Ellen. As you search for your own family tree; take comfort that you may very well sense that your Mom and Dad still guide you. ALL of us regret our "younger days" when we didn't have the good sense to ask questions of our parents and/or grandparents.
Just a couple more suggestions...then you GO girl!
1. Too many folks limit their search to their IMMEDIATE line. But successful researchers also follow the families of siblings of their immediate line. Especially among the early Dutch...they often married cousins, so failure to include siblings leads to brick walls AND mistakes.
2. DO visit the Olive Tree web-site I gave you. Lorine has generously provided terrific beginner guide-lines...read them. Her site is a gold-mine.
