The Terrells seemed to use names again and again in succeeding generations, such as Richmond, Timothy, William, Elizabeth and Amelia. President Jimmy Carter descends from William Terrell and Susannah Waters through a daughter who married into the Carters of Virginia. Some researchers claim that President Obama's mother descends through a daughter who intermarried with, I believe, a Lewis. Other notables including Senator Lindy Claiborne Boggs of Louisiana, as well as signer of the Declaration of Independence from Georgia, Button Gwinnett, if I remember correctly. Terrell County in Georgia is named for a younger William Terrell. The author of the Lewis Family history is William Terrell Lewis, describing the Virginia family related to the Washingtons, Jeffersons and my father's Martin line. The Terrells also interacted with my father's ancestor Thomas Banks of Mantipike, New Kent, Virginia, as well as my mother's West line there. In North Carolina, the Terrells had close associations with the Martins, Brooks and others. In eastern North Carolina are located, side by side a Washington, Martin and Tyrell [alternate spelling of Terrell] County.
