Polly Davis, Polly Terrill, Gerardus Ferriss
Who are Polly Davis’ parents?
Polly Davis (b. 30 Jul 1784, d. 28 Dec 1858) married Gerardus Ferriss (b. 17 Mar 1779, d. 29 Jul 1867) in January 1804. (from Orcutt’s History of New Milford)
Traditional and obvious sources (probate, land records, published genealogies etc.) have not provided the answer.
The “naming convention” approach has produced a possible clue.
Gerardus Ferriss and Polly Davis had 7 children: Charles, Caroline, Charlania, George, Paulina, Albert, and Charlotte.
The two names Paulina and Charlan(i)a are fairly rare.
In the Church records for the Washington Church at New Preston, Jared Terrill baptized several children including two girls named Paulina (b. 20 Jan 1800) and Charlana (b. 18 May 1797).
Also, there is a Polly Terrill who was born 4 Aug 1784, only five days from when Polly (Davis) Ferriss was born.
Polly Terrill had a brother Curtis(s) Terrill who had real estate transaction(s) with a Stephen Davis “ofNew Fairfield.”
Could the “Polly Davis” who married Gerardus Ferriss been Polly Terrill Davis, perhaps a widow, albeit a very young widow?
Any information is greatly appreciated.
