Hi Albert,
It would seem that your Jacques who was married to Marie Josephte Beaudoin, was not only the father of your Jean Baptiste b. October 2, 1758 but also my Joseph born March 30, 1751.(The had eleven children.) In my group the name was changed to CASEY. Or at least that is the way it was thought to be spelled. Anyway our version of the story is that there was a fur trading deal gone bad and thus the name change. I am trying to determine when the name was changed so that I can hopefully figure out which name to use when searching for the forebears of my Jean Maxime Casey who lived in Buffalo, New York. However, all census records state he was born at sea.(I suspect one of the great lakes.)Several of Max's grandkids find their way back to Michigan and I think there must have been some family there to draw them in that direction. Anyway do you have a time frame for the change to Tacey? Interestingly enough Max's youngest daughter uses the name TASEY when she applies for a marriage license in Tonawanda, New York. His wife is also shown by that name on her death certificate. This group is really a mystery and the confusion factor really slows down the research. Let me know if you have any thoughts...
