Aloha P. Baribeau,
It is usually best to stay on this forum rather than go to E-mail for communicating so that others can enjoy and learn from the exchange, and so that others can add to the information. I have no idea how Gerry Tessier responded to your posting.
Saint-Anne-de-Beaupre Cathedral is located east of the city of Quebec, quite a distance from Montreal. There is a false story that Mathurin Tessier contributed the land on which that cathedral is located. Urbain Tessier dit Lavigne, of no known relation to Mathurin, did have land in the 17th century that is now located in the heart of Montreal. It incorporates the well known Place d'Armees. There is a plaque on the exterior wall of a commercial building in the Place which commemorates Urbain's ownership. I do not now have the literature but I recall reading an authoritative story several years ago that told of a group of Urbain's descendants who UNSUCCESSFULLY tried to get the land back or to be compensated for it.
There were Tessiers from France, other than Urbain and Mathurin, who settled in Quebec. Mathurin and Urbain both had colorful lives. You should try to find out which one is your ancestor.
Best, Jerry
