Sorry. I didn't mean to exclude people by asking for an e-mail response...
My knowledge of the Tessier land in downtown Montreal is from childhood memories and sketchy at best. I remember my grandmother taking a trip to Canada in the 1960s and was told about how her ancestors (the Tessiers) had given some land in downtown Montreal to the Catholic Church and a cathedral had been built there. While in Canada, Grandmother sent us a postcard with a picture of St. Anne de Beaupry cathedral on it, so I assumed this was the church located in downtown Montreal. I now realize my mistake in making this assumption.
My mother, who passed away in 1995, had some papers relative to the lawsuit filed by Tessier descendents concerning this land. My understanding though was that the legal battle was more recent than it apparently was. (I thought it was still going on in the 1970s).
Anyway, I'm going to visit my father and will be searching for my mother's papers on this matter. If I find anything of interest I will post it on this forum.
I am still not sure of my connection to either Mathurin or Urbain Tessier. I have only been able to trace my line back to Anastasia Tessier (born Nov, 1856 in L'Original, Ontario) who was the daughter of Joseph Tessier and Scholastique Samson. If anyone can help me, I'd sure appreciate it!
