From a dictionary I have, I am very sure that your Joseph is not a descendant of Mathurin Tessier. But ask Don Messer on this Tessier page. Don seems to have a good handle on the descendants of Urbain Tessier dit Lavigne. If that doesn't produce an answer, I suggest writing to the city of the marriage for a copy of the marriage certificate. That certificate should give you the names of the parents of both the bride and groom. Also I can provide you with e-mail and snail mail adresses of U.S. genealogical societies who, for a modest fee, can try to find a record of the marriage of Joseph or even trace his line back to France.
