Jerry, I realize there is a danger in accepting dates as the gospel. The date of birth 1839 also appears on his tombstone. With every thing else so shady about this group I realize that dates may not be accurate for one reason or another. His application for Civil War pension shows that he was first married in 1858. His second marriage was in 1860. I assume the first one died. By the way the pension was denied as there was no one to verify that his diabilities were due to the war. He was a ship's calker or carpenter. He had the following children, Mary Belle, Nora, Thomas, Ann Elizabeth, Josephine and Ida.(These may not be in the correct birth order.) Ann Elizabeth was my great grandmother. She named her children: George, Frank, Josephine, Arvilla, Sarah(my grandmother) and John after his father John Holler. Does any one have a French name that translates to Michael?
I have a sneaking suspicion that perhaps my great grandmother is the child of his first marriage. As my grandmother stated that her mother's mother was a Tobin. The later children give their mother's maiden name as Martin. I rather feel that this group is my brick wall but I hate to write them off as the challenge is too great. Thanks for your ear. Any ideas or avenues to follow will be gladly accepted. Sara Burkholder
