Richard Tacy AKA Regis Tessier?

I'm just starting my search for ancestors and have run into a puzzle: My great Grandfather was named Richard Tacy, but when I look him up I also find the name Regis Tessier. He was born 3/27/1857 in Helena, NY and died 1/20/1938 in Rochester, NY. He married Mary Clementine "Minnie" Back, and they had several children in NY. Also, his father was Andrew Tacy, and listed with the last name Tessier as an alternate name. Born 1809 in Canada, and married Susan (Teresa) LaDuc, Born 1813 in Canada.

I was hoping someone could give me some information or tell me where the best place to find it would be.

Thanks a bunch!
