Jan,

My brother has been doing extensive investigating through all sorts of sites on the internet. He found the following information in regards to another land grab perpetrated on my ggrandfather Alex by the railway. He also appears to be connected to an "O. Tessier" who also had claims to the same plot and resided in East Saginaw as well.

Something very interesting as well in regards to the Tessier/Casey name usage by my ancestors. My ggrandparents, Alex and Fannie, were using the name Casey in 1884 in East Saginaw. This information came to light via an obituary of a deceased child named Charles, who passed away at the age of 1 year, 7 months of unknown causes. The question is, why were they going by Casey when it apparently wasn't their legal name? My grandfather David, who was born after this time period, had to legally change his name from Tessier to Casey in 1912. Also, Alex used the name Tessier in 1906 in his dealings with the railroad. It has definitely become a conundrum. I am now left with more questions than I had previously.

I can also place Alex and Fanny in Montreal in 1877 as that's where and when Alexander Jr. was born. But, they were in East Saginaw by 1882, with a stop somewhere in between as the family has them living in Peterborough, Ontario at some point.
