Nan, thanks for tip on the French source book.

I have been working on Shoults. I found in the St. Louis records that Christophe actually signed his name as Schultz. His children began the use of the Shoults name and continued thereafter. I suspect that Christophe may have been either German or French. He came to the East coast. Per the STL church records, at least two of his four sons were born on the East Coast. Christophe and his children lived in Carondolet, an area of St. Louis where only French was spoken.
