I've not been able to look in detail at your Totten information. From glancing over it, it does look interesting--I hope to get to this point later in the week.
Something that I'm considering is the possibility that the George Teater records do not represent a single person. Even beyond possible confusion with his son, I suspect that there may be other George Teaters's whose records have become associated with those of the George Teater on the Ebbing Springs Call.
As an instance of this, I'll point out that we have records for George Teater in three places of interest----Montgomery County VA to 1770, Washington County VA 1770-1779, and Kentucky 1779 on.
These records are all presumed to be for the same George Teater who married Sarah. The timing of the appearance and dissappearance of George Teater in these records is consistent with them being the same person. But in looking at the records only (not peoples interpretation of the records) I find little that explicitly shows that these are all the same person.
I know everyone says they are the same, and they probably are, but the truth is there's nothing in the records to tie them together. Just as people believe that the records showing George Teater as an ensign in Washington County, more likely apply to George the father, so too is it possible that some of these records apply to another George Teater altogether.
