Botetourt County formed in 1770. Various counties Fincastle, Montgomery, Henry, Greenbriar, Washington, formed from it over the course of the next ten years or so. it took its modern boundaries in 1851 when Craig County split off.
In 1750 the area would have been in Augusta County, but that area was huge, and doesn't help much in pinpoint his place of birth.
