Not all Teters were Germans there just as many who were Huguenots scattered across England Scotland Ireland as Tetar Teaterd Jeter Tetor Teder many variants.
The 2nd George Teator or George Jeter who was intertwined with the Edminstons and Bruces was not John George Deiter. who signed a petition as John 1738 in Jost Hites German side of the Opeckon. George Jeter was alongside the Bruce family 1734.
John George Deiter is recorded aquiring a deed in Berks PA 1734. He did not come to Josts Hites area until around 1737.
George Jeter -Teator and his son Jacob Teeter and other sons George Teeder Samuel Teeder moved between Surry Va Frederick Co Edgdcombe NC.

They are recorded as Tettor Tetor Teter Teater Teder Tedder Teeder..

John Jeter I who is thought to be the original progenitor of the Jeters in the US.

John Jeter,b.1686, d. 1736 Married Elizabeth Vaughan b. abt 1686, m.abt 1708


7 Children: John Jeter II, Nicholas Jeter, William Jeter, Thomas Jeter, Henry Jeter, Samuel Jeter.


The name Jeter is found in Suffolk, Co., Eng., records in 1561, 1577, 1612. The work "Jeter" is a French word meaning to throw. The Jeters were French Huguenots who took refuge in England and lived there many years before coming to America.


According to a memorandum left by William Oscar Jeter of Kentucky, John Jeter came from England in the early 1700's and settled near Port Royal, Caroline Co., Va. He was twice married and had eleven children by each marriage. His wives' names are not known.
John Jeter's children: (these appear to be John II's children)
1. George Jeter, moved to Orange, Co., Va.= Teator
2. Henry Jeter, lived in Caroline Co., Va.
3. Thomas Jeter, moved to Amelia Co., Va., about 1760 and died there 1765
4. William Jeter, moved to SC and died there about 1797 = Teter old 96 S.C.
5. Ambrose Jeter, moved to Amelia Co., Va.

John Jeter goes back to Suffolk England. Jeter of Lowestoft, whose given name was John, in Suffolk, married and had one issue,Edmond, son and heir.
They left France because of religious persecution and came to England.Later came to Virginia.

William Jeter is recorded on the 96th tax lists sc 1779 as Teter on the Spartanburg jury lists as Teter.
The 2 sons James and Cornelious are listed as Prisoners of War Revolution as Tetor.
Joseph Jeter of Luneneberg is listed in Rowan Co as Teater. his sons are listed as Tedder.
Jacob Teeter is listed as Teder Teeder and Teater between his deeds in Surry VA and road orders in Frederick Co as well as his service with brother Samuel clerks of the Edgecombe Court 1750s. 3 of these brothers Jacob George and Joseph also settled and removed from Edgecombe NC to Rowan Co recored as Teeter Teeder Teater

The Teters in Camden valley NY came from Limerick Ireland as Tettler, Peter and Valintine Huguenots from Nassau who arrived on Queens Snns list 1709 sometimes found as Tetler Teter Delter Dettlor. John and Valintine came as Irish Regulars in the Brittish Army 1756. These are the Teters of Camden Settlement and Canada,
