I would be very interested in finding more on the origin of the surname - I fould a very vague reference in a German message in regard all the "slaf"-ending German names:
It appears (and this may be obvious to German-speakers) that it is an appellation to Slavic families who emigrated to Germany from central or southeastern Europe *quite* some time ago.
The message went on to hint that Tetzlaff may have originally been Cjeslav or Tjieslav, from Serbia or Croatia.
