Wendish Roots - name prefixes & TRIBES!

A German book on Wendish patronyms (family names) that I recently was able to scan at the University of California listed Sorbian (Wend) name prefixes corresponding to areas in the Lusatian lands and the tribes inhabiting them.

Tes- and Tec- almost certainly originate from the area between Dresden and Meissen in NE.Germany, at the outskirts of what is now the Lusatian lands. The names belong to the Daleminzer people, an early Slavic conquest of the Saxons (10th century). Their germanicization would have been ahead of many other Wendish tribes, and their names may have become germanic earlier.

And here's how Prussia figures in (with the Pommeranian origin of the Tetzlaff name) - in the mid019th century, Prussia claimed a great deal of Lusatia as territory - a line just north of Konigsbruck, Kamenz and Weissenberg.

Enjoy your heritage, my fellow displaced-Daleminzers!
