Latest Input on Earliest Tettertons in North Carolina
The new input below replaces the Perquimans County input from my previous input listing Tedders, Tettertons, etc by county.Additional research indicates that all of the known Tettertons, similar names, and some Tedders in early North Carolina descend from one person: John Tetterton born in England sometime after 1600 through his son William. What with William Tetterton being associated with the Thomas Evans and John Lilly families while in Perquimans, it has been assumed that William was the son of Edward of Gloucester Virginia and that William came to Perquimans with the Evans and Lilleys. This may or may not be true.
What appears to happen, and I will document it below, is that the Tettertons in Perquimans descends from one person, John who was born in England and later came to Perquimans. His son William was born in 1642 and married Margaret Hall in 1679 in Perquimans. They had William in 1682 and a daughter Elizabeth, date unknown.William died before Jan 1685.Margaret married again to John White (Waite) in 1685; the paperwork identifies Margaret's maiden name as Hall. John died and left a will Apr 1692 naming Margaret as his wife and stepchildren William and Elizabeth.Margaret again remarried to Peter Pavel; William is later documented as a Titable in Peter's household.See below:
Perquimans:Berkeley changed to Perquimans in 1681.Due to long documentation of some inputs and to allow inputs in a chronological order, have identified documentation of these inputs at the end of the inputs with either a (1*) or (2*), and put the documentation at the end of Perquimans County inputs.
