Jeffrey, I suspect you are the son of Jean and grandson of Arthur D. If I'm not correct, please respond quickly. Your immigrant ancestor was Johann Conrad Dieffenbach[from which English clerks fashioned Tevebaugh many years later]. When he emerged into history [we don't know early life yet]he had just married his second wife in the Reformed Church in Wiesloch, in Baden, some 15-20 km. south of Heidelberg. He, his wife, mother, dau from 1st marriage, and 2 or 3 children from second marriage left Wiesloch in May 1709 for Rotterdam. From there they went to England, and in about April, 1710, set sail for New York City, arriving in June. You are descended from his son of the 1st marriage, Johann Jakob, who came to America in the 1730s and eventually settled in the NW part of the colony of VA.
Ask your mother to send you photocopies of the section on the family name from our book on the Indiana Branch. Need more detail? email me. John Tevebaugh
