Join the many who have been misled by inaccurate notation. This family immigrated as Dieffenbach, went through a number of surname varieties in the public records (Devepaugh, Tevebaugh, Devebaugh, etc.), because clerks and the early family members spelled only what they HEARD, or they still spoke German, and didn't read or write English.
