Touchberry/Tewksbury: related?

My family first showed up in America as John Touchberry in Manning, South Carolina. However, various family members have been able to trace our roots (convincingly)back to Britain. Some have said "Tewksbury" is a very close approximation, if you assume a Welshman saying his place of origin to a non-Welshman, who then wrote it as "Touchberry". Does this make sense to anyone?

The other suggestion given any credence is that John was from Tutsbury.

I would appreciate any suggestions or knowledgeable guidance in my search.

Eric Touchberry
