Cornelius & Susanna (Carver) Thames and DNA
Cornelius and Susanna (Carver) Thames.
If you are a descendant of Cornelius and Susanna then you are a Braswell/Carver descendant too.The Carver line is an illegitimate Braswell line. The father of Susanna was Jesse Carver the son of William Braswell/Carver, that is undoubtedly who the first son born 1810 in NC of Cornelius and Susanna was named for. This is not news. This is public record and it is a documented fact.In the 1960’s William C. Fields III and others found the Halifax Co. NC deeds that proved just who the Carvers were of Bladen/Cumberland Co. NC.
All of the Braswell’s & Carver’s want to be a descendant of Reverend Robert Bracewell. They are proud of that.He was born in London, England of a wealthy family that were Wool brokers. He matriculated at Oxford University at Cambridge. He served for a very short time as a member of the VA House of Burgess.
The Thames Family is proposing a DNA program and that is the reason we now bring this up.The Braswell family has one of the most successful family DNA programs at FTDNA.They have over forty participants.
There is only one Braswell line that can be document out of the several lines. It is the Richard Braswell I line and that line includes the Carvers.
The Braswell DNA program has done about everything “as advertised”.It has proved the Carver line; it has discovered the Haplotype of Richard Braswell I; it has proved that the surname spelling is not consistent; it has proved some of the undocumented lines. The testing has raised a lot of questions too.All of the Braswells are not of the same family. One group even has a different Haplogroup.
At the beginning of the testing all of the participants pretty much assumed they were descendants of the Anglican Cleric Reverend Robert Bracewell sent to Isle of Wight Co. VA by the London Parish of the Church of England in about 1650.The testing has proved that is not the case.
The success of these programs depends on maximum participation. The more people that participate in the program the greater the chances of success. The more you will learn. We are citing this family program because it is an exellent example.
The top twenty people listed with the yellow background on the web page are Bracewell/Braswell.Only the second participant and a couple of more can document his line. The first one listed could document his line back to within one generation of Richard Braswell I that was the son of Rev. Rob't., but he couldn’t document which of Richard’s sons was his ancestor. So now he has been proven correct.Because participant #1 and participant #2 have exactly the same Haplotype they now have discovered the Haplotype of their ancestor Richard Braswell I born circa 1652, IOWC, VA.The two Carvers that participated are documented and, though they each have a mutation, they confirm the Haplotype of Richard I.
The second group of four participants, listed on the blue background, does not descend from the Rev. Robt. Braswell but they are one family because they match.
The third group of two participants, listed in the orange background, does not descend from the Rev. Robt. Braswell but they are one family because they match.

If you are a male with the surname Thames or Timms or variation thereof you need to take the DNA test.
