George Theiss - Civil War Record

I am brand new to this forum. I came here hoping to find information about the Civil War service of a Mr. George Theiss from Sublette, Illinois.

Several years ago I came into possession of a model 1860 light cavalry saber. It was given to me in 2001 by a distant relative of Mr. Theiss when I bought his house in Gig Harbor, Washington. The saber was supposedly carried by George Theiss during the Civil War.

The Civil War records that I have located so far show three Theiss's from Illinois serving in the Union Army including a George Theiss. The problem is that he was enlisted in the infantry and would not likely have been issued a saber. Likewise with the two other Theiss's. So I am hoping that someone on this forum can put me on the right track to verify who carried this saber.

Does anyone know where to find details about the Civil War service of this George Theiss?
