Hello Murray,
I believe we are half first cousins once removed! My grandfather Tommie and your grandfather Mottie were half brothers.
My line is
Mary Pauline Therrell (my mother, b 1911) m John T. Lusk in 1934
Thomas Leon Therrell (b 12 Aug 1886) m. Ruth Pierce in 1910
Benjamin E. Therrell (25 Feb 1856 - 26 Dec 1928) m Sarah Jane Dixon (or Horton)
Sarah died in Jan of 1894 and Benjamin married Docia Myers in Nov. of that year. I remember Grandma Docie well. I was 11 when she died.
I have Elijah Levi Therrell as born in 1840, the oldest child of Elijah.
I have Reuben J. Wilkerson (or Wilkinson) Therrell as born in 1841 or 42.
In a letter written in 1974 my grandfather says "Two of my father's brothers (Levi born 1840) and (Wilkerson born 1841) were killed during Civil War and are buried in Shiloh National Cemetery". I've since learned that Levi probably didn't die in the war and that R.J.W. was severely wounded in the thigh at Murfreesboro Dec. 31, 1862, was captured and died at Camp Butler, Springfield, IL on Mar 31, 1863. However, this statement does establish that my grandfather believed that the two men were his uncles and therefore also uncles of your grandfather.
I'd like to know more about your branch of the family, and would be happy to share with you about mine. Do you live in MS? Mother says that in her memory her cousin B.E. (your father)lived in the Delta. I live in Birmingham, AL, but some of my family still live in Florence and Jackson.
