Hi,

The first John Thew was a Welsh sea captain, date of birth unknown. He married Elsie Snedeker. Their first son John, was baptized 03 Jul 1726 in Jamaica, Long Island. He married Aeltje Cuyper. (there are many spellings of her name) They had a son named Garrett who is the father of John S. John S mother was Deborah Cure. John S first wife was Catharine Calkins. The Thew's did not come on the Mayflower but Calkins may have. I have not been researching that part yet. My grandfather was Donald Thew. I have found that his mother is related to the servant Doty from the Mayflower and his father was a direct descendant of the first John Thew in America. I am in the process of filling out our tree that goes all the way back to the Welsh sea captain, however, this family has already been well researched which has made it very easy once I got a hold of the book, Our Thew Family Heritage. The book is over a 1000 pages and was written by Diana Bastian and Linda Carver in 2005. It is extremely well researched and documented. There is also a LOT of info on Ancestry.com As your last name is Thew we are probably related, somewhere down the line. :)
