       31. John8 THEW (Edward7, Thomas6, Thomas5, Ralph4, John3, Ralph2, Rodger1) (#378) was born in Durham England 1839. John died 16th Feb 1882 in Gulgong NSW, at 42 years of age.

       He married Caroline COCKBURN in Auckland Durham England, 1859. (Caroline COCKBURN is #382.) Caroline was born in Wingate Durham 1841. Caroline died 4th Nov 1876 in Lat 40.20 south Long 146.40 ea, at 35 years of age. Died at sea from Dysentry Chronic Liver Disease Aboard ship NINEVAH from Plymoth U.K.

       At 21 years of age Caroline became the mother of John THEW in Bradbury Durham England, 1862. At 23 years of age Caroline became the mother of Edward THEW in Newburn Nth Durham Eng, 1864. At 26 years of age Caroline became the mother of Luke THEW in Derban Durham Eng, 1867. At 28 years of age Caroline became the mother of Hanna THEW in Durban Durham Eng, 1869. At 30 years of age Caroline became the mother of Anne THEW in Durham, 1871. At 32 years of age Caroline became the mother of Thomas THEW 1873. At 34 years of age Caroline became the mother of William THEW 1875. At 35 years of age Caroline became the mother of Joseph Cockburn THEW in At sea, 1876.

       At 23 years of age John became the father of John THEW in Bradbury Durham England, 1862. At 25 years of age John became the father of Edward THEW in Newburn Nth Durham Eng, 1864. At 28 years of age John became the father of Luke THEW in Derban Durham Eng, 1867. At 30 years of age John became the father of Hanna THEW in Durban Durham Eng, 1869. At 32 years of age John became the father of Anne THEW in Durham, 1871. At 34 years of age John became the father of Thomas THEW 1873. At 36 years of age John became the father of William THEW 1875. At 37 years of age John became the father of Joseph Cockburn THEW in At sea, 1876. John Thew arrived in Australia in Nov. 1876 along with his 7 children having just lost his wife and new born son near the very end of their trip.
       John is not well known to me, all I do know is that he settled in Gulgong on a property named Canadian Lead. His brother Thomas and his family lived there and I assume John went there for help with his children after his wife Caroline dying during the voyage out. I am sure John was involved in chasing the gold that was being mined around Gulgong at the time.
       In the 1861 Census John amd Caroline lived at 117 Brandon Colliery they had no children John was a Coal Miner In the 1871 Census they lived at Church St. Elvet. near Durham City and at the time had five children one was an infant.
       John and Caroline were married in Aukland which is the seat of the Bishop of Durham at Durham Cathedral.



       John THEW and Caroline COCKBURN had the following children:

+        86        i.        John9 THEW was born 1862.
+        87        ii.        Edward THEW was born 1864.
       88        iii.        Luke THEW (#416) was born in Derban Durham Eng 1867.
       89        iv.        Hanna THEW (#417) was born in Durban Durham Eng 1869. Hanna died 1927 in St Leonards, at 58 years of age. She married Charles G K WARES in Berrima, 1889. (Charles G K WARES is #602.) Charles was born in Berrima 1864. Charles was the son of George K WARES and Mary Elizabeth BULLOCK. Charles died 1924 in St Leanards, at 60 years of age. At 26 years of age Charles became the father of George Stanley WARES 1890. At 28 years of age Charles became the father of Ellen C WARES 1892. At 31 years of age Charles became the father of Charles John WARES 1895. At 35 years of age Charles became the father of Dorothy Anne WARES 1899. At 38 years of age Charles became the father of Edna May WARES 1902. At 40 years of age Charles became the father of Elvert R WARES 1904. At 48 years of age Charles became the father of Hanna I WARES 1912 ?. (See Charles G K WARES for the continuation of this line.)
                            At 21 years of age Hanna became the mother of George Stanley WARES 1890. At 23 years of age Hanna became the mother of Ellen C WARES 1892. At 26 years of age Hanna became the mother of Charles John WARES 1895. At 30 years of age Hanna became the mother of Dorothy Anne WARES 1899. At 33 years of age Hanna became the mother of Edna May WARES 1902. At 35 years of age Hanna became the mother of Elvert R WARES 1904. At 43 years of age Hanna became the mother of Hanna I WARES 1912 ?.
       90        v.        Anne THEW (#418) was born in Durham 1871.
+        91        vi.        Thomas THEW was born 1873.
       92        vii.        William THEW (#420) was born 1875. William died 1937 at 62 years of age. He married Evelyn M HENRY 1882. (Evelyn M HENRY is #926.)
       93        viii.        Joseph Cockburn THEW (#421) was born in At sea 1876. Joseph died 1876 in At sea, at less than one year of age.
