I don't know if there is any relationship but:
My g-grandfather Mathias Thielen was born to John and Mary Thielen on September 10, 1848 in Trier, Rhine Province, German Empire. He was the youngest son among four boys and four girls. He headed for America about 1868, but landed at Quebec, Canada. He still wanted to go to America so continued his journey. He found himself in Chicago, Ill. in 1869. He mowed hay and guided the steam shovels which were digging Chicago's great drainage canals.
Later he emigrated westward to Iowa with a group of friends. He spent time in Osage, IA, and met Elizabeth Kirst there and they married September 22, 1876 in Charles City, IA. In 1886, he moved to Riceville, IA where he lived until his death on July 26, 1911 in Minneapolis, MN. (all this info and more is from his obituary)
I haven't run across a Peter yet, but I'll update you if I do.
