All my records indicate that your Emma Thoms is the daughter of Decatur and Susan Toms. I have a copy of the Bible record plus census data, etc. The Bible record lists the children: William (1838), Elizabeth (1840), Sarah (1842), Nathaniel (1845), George W. (1847), Rebecca (1850), Almirah (1852), Juley (1855), Emmer (b. April 19, 1858), and Dealia (1862). In the 1850ís the family was living in New York City. In about 1857 they went out to Janesville, Wisconsin. In 1860 they returned to the East because of a land foreclosure. They were in Hudson City (Jersey City), NJ for about three years. In the mid-1860ís they again went west and finally settled in Chicago. William and Sarah stayed in Jersey City. Decatur born in Hudson City in 1862 to Decatur and Mary is a puzzle since Dealia was born in 1862. Iíve found a record that indicates Emma married Walter Kedge in St. Louis, Missouri 12 Feb. 1878. Wm. Birney is listed as a witness. Interestingly, Juley Toms married a William Birney.
