Origin, history and genealogy

I'm Cecil Thoms, and I'm from Jamaica. Ever since I have known myself I have been trying to find out the origin, and history of the name THOMS. Infact, friends of mine would normally poke fun...saying my mom or dad forgot to add an 'a'making it Thomas. Now I know there are thousands of people out there who has the name.

I would appreciate if someone could fill me in on the origin of the name and its history, which am sure it would have had.

In Jamaica, most people consider the name to be rather strange or unusual, in fact, I use to think that my family and I were in a class by ourselves since no one else possessed the surname. Anyway, what I have known seen and heard has dispelled that belief. By the way, does anyone know the Golfer David Thoms...chances are we are all related.

Best regards, and I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
