Hello David,
I have only just received your message re Peter Thoms of Dundee. My niece Sandra Quayle in Canada with some help from myself has been researching our family link for some years. Although my name is listed as Nancy, I am known by my second name Doreen.
Peter Thoms,Dundee 1800-1852 was married to Isabella Smith 1803--1847.
One of their sons was Alexander Thoms 1825-? who married Helen Wilson.their youngest son, my immediate Grandfather, George Florence Smeaton Bisset Thoms 1848-1900 emigrated to New Zealand from Arbroath, Scotland,where he met and married an English governess, Elizabeth Allen 1851-1928.
Trust this may help. I could go on and on but guess that is not what you want. Took a 23 year old grandaughter to Scotland two years ago to try to find out more. Although we spent along time in the Arbroath Library going over records we ran out of time. Would love to go back for a gathering of the McThomas Clan at Glenshee in August 2005. It is a long way from New Zealand!
