Hello Bill,
Thank you for replying to the message Rob (my husband) posted regarding Francis Thow and Ann Paterson. Your message was the first return with any data that I've had in nearly 12 months of research. You have made my heart warm this evening (our time). I have a new grandaughter and have been putting together a family history for her. While I have much information on the rest of the family, as the tree developed in Tasmania (Van Diemens Land), Francis and Ann Thow have been a total brick wall. According to the internet, there is some sort of link between them and Maria Island, off the east coast of Tasmania, about half way up. This island was a convict settlement but not at the times when Francis and Ann could have been there. Perhaps they were farmers.
I really would like to know as much as I can about them and the Thow family (and the Patersons too) in Scotland. If you, or anyone else, has any information regarding the families I would be grateful to share it and I would be happy to pay any cost associated with it.
If you would like to contact me off this bulletin board, I would love to hear from you. In case the board does not show it to you, my email address is
[email protected]
If anyone in Scotland wants to know about Francis, I will pass them my files. We understand that Francis was born in Newmachar and Ann in Inverurie and that they had a son, John, in 1842 before they emigrated to VDL where they had a much larger family.
As Francis was my ggg grandfather, does that make us 7th cousins?
Regards, my very best wishes, and thank you again,
Margaret Knight (nee Churches - nee Wickins - nee Thow)
