Thwaits Family Genealogy Forum

Not exactly in response to your request but playing around with my new computer I came across this site. I am a direct descendant of John Joshua Thwaites who around the 1780's went to Argentina. He went out with his brother George who later returned to England. The two of them and three other colleagues (I think they went out to start up a bank -they also started a brewery as a side line which did not do well) married the five Rubio sisters. John Joshua's grandson (his daughter Juana's son) was the great Argentine explorer Francisco Moreno, known as Perito (Surveyor) Moreno, after whom the Glacier and the National Park in Patagonia is named. He was a Royal Geographical Society Gold Medalist and there has just been a series of lectures commemorating his discoveries 100 years ago at the RGS. If you are interested and think the families are related I could find out more about the Thwaites family in Argentina as it is all well documented, though there are only a handful of Thwaites left in Buenos Aires. I believe they originally came from Yorkshire. Yours sincerely
Denise Hickman (I live in London now)
