I'd never heard of O'Tibbs either. This info came from an article I found about Casey Tibbs, just gave a brief overview of his ancestors. I'll summarize that part of it.
Francis Sr. arrived in Virginia about 1770 from Ireland. Says this branch of the family were plantation owners by the time of the Civil War.
Francis son, James was captain in the War of 1812 and married Jennie Morgan (sister to Indian fighters David, Levi & James Morgan). It only mentions their son Robert, I'm assuming James & Jennie had other sons since it says Robert was the only one to survive the military conflicts of the early 1880's. Robert was Justice of the Peace for many years in Ritchie County, VA.
Robert's son was Eugene (also mentions "brothers" but no names), all fought in the Civil War. Eugene was deputy sheriff of Ritchie County, VA when the War started and then became a captain in the secret service of the Southern Confederacy.
Eugene's son, Tom, relocated to Iowa and married Nettie Furgusson in 1882. She was part Chippewa (cousin of P.T. Barnum). Tom raised Morgan & Standardbred horses in IA. They moved to Highmore, South Dakota in 1892 and began raising Percheron & Thoroughbred horses there. In 1889 there was a prairie fire in which both Nettie and their son Frank died, Tom was severly burned but survived. They had another son, John, he would be my great grandfather. John ran away from home at age 12 and later married Florence Leggett. John was also known as "Father John" and settled at Mission Ridge, South Dakota where he also raised horses for the military & farmers. John & Florence had 10 children; Tom, Ancel, Johnny, Frank, Thad (also known as Doc, my grandfather), Casey, Dolly, Ardie, Katie & Murphy.
The article doesn't go into the details with dates, wives or even siblings, what I've wrote here is all that's in it. I would love to learn more about all this in addition to anything about Francis & his ancestors.
Thank you so much for your help!
Sarah
