Hi Richard, Great information. Did your professional researcher uncover any other Ticers from that area of Virginia? The Dowdy's also came from Virginia to Chatham, NC and there are a lot of Ticers from that area and a book (Ticers of Old Chatham, I believe), but it only mentions Augustine briefly.

Here are some more notes that you might be interested in that I received from another researcher who believes that the family is of German origin -- others state French:
Augustine and Austine Ticer families moved to Cincinnati Ohio in 1808. Much later Austin and his ten children moved into northern Ohio and we lost track of them. Uriah Ticer, Parsons Ticer & Allen Ticer were born in Cincinnati Ohio.

Would appreciate more data on your line if you are willing to share. Do you know how many children Gabriel had by his first wife & birth/death dates? Also, do you have any old family pictures? I have some old pictures that are unlabeled that might be Ticers or Dowdys.
