I am pretty certain that James H and his third wife Nancy Elizabeth Pitts and two of James' sons (Lewis and Lester) moved to Animas City (now Durango), Colorado in about 1877. I believe that James died in October 1877 in Animas City. According to documents recorded with the county clerk, Nancy lived there in 1880 as she was deeded a property in Animas City. The boys continued to live in the area and in Silverton, CO, for several years after their father's death and eventually moved to California where they had families and died.

I hope this solves a little piece of the mystery.
