"BEAUTIFUL 1856 ANTIQUE BIBLE

The Honorable Families of Tilghman and Goldsborough of Maryland Insignatures inside cover

This is a brown hardcover bible, King James version. Printed in 1856, M.DCCC.LVI. Printed by G.E. Eyre and W. Spottiswoode, London.

After the title page, the writing begins with "To the most high and mighty Prince James, by the grace of God, King of Great Britain, France, and Ireland, Defender of the faith, &c."

The inside of the cover contains the names of prior owners, which after researching I have found that they appear to be kin of or family of Col. Richard Tilghman (1671-1737 aka. Chancelor of the Providence of Maryland in 1722), The Hon. Matthew Tilghman, fathering Maryland's first Constitution and Revolutionary War Patriot among other accomplishments. And also of the Goldsborough family, which was also Revolutionaries and founders of Maryland. (All from Talbot County, Maryland). I do not know of the Civil War accomplishments of the families or of the signatures toherefore mentioned:

The page is signed "Edward Tilghman from his daughter E.S. Goldsborough, 1860"

"Anna Goldsborough, March 15th 1862."

There is also an obituary attached to this page of "Johnston, August 4th, 1866." It mentions the Tilghman name and attached the name to Elenborough, Talbot County, Maryland.
