According to some info I have from some DAR records, your Joel Tilley, b. 1765, who married Elizabeth Harris was the son of Lazarus Tilly born 1744 in VA and died 1814 in Shelby Co., KY. Lazarus was a resident of Surry Co, NC in 1782. Stokes Co was formed from Surry Co in 1789. Joel stayed in Stokes Co. His will dated 1842 lists sons: Thomas Jefferson, Aaron B., Moses,
daughters: Martha, Phebe, Julia Ann, Nancy, Elizabeth, Polly.
Siblings of Joel include Aaron, Lazarus, Betsy, Nelly, Ann, Mary Ann, Agatha, Nancy, and Moses. Lazarus was son of Henry Tilley. I am looking for family of Daniel Tilly (Tilley) who moved from Stokes Co. to Spencer Co IN. He married Nancy Lankford in Stokes in 1807. If this info is new, I can send more details.
