Susan, I have John Tilley born in England c1687 and came to Boston with his two brothers to work for William Tilley, Ropemaker. John left Ma. and settled in NY where two sons were born, Leonard and Samuel.

leonard was born in Brooklyn and married there and then moved to Granby, Mass. Samuel the second son was born in Brooklyn in 1740 and married Mary Morgan in 1765. He was a loyalist and went to New Brunswick Canada in 1783 where he died in 1820. Three chidren were born to Samuel and Mary: James, jacob and Elizabeth. The book mentions quitena few other Tilleys but am not sure if they were in NY. But the author states that quite a few descendents of a George Tilley of England who came to NY in 1738 came be found in NY. I hope this helps. Jon
