CHARLES TILLY, (b. 1845) Carlow, Ireland (parents?)
Looking for any information on possible parents and sister of Charles Tilly, born June 16, 1845, in Carlow, Ireland - about whom the following was said:
"He entered Dublin University at an early age, and finished his education in Paris.He came to the United States and in 1869 was induced to go to Augusta, Georgia by Major Branch, of the firm of Branch, Scott & Co., in whose employ he continued until 1873, when he entered upon business on his own account.He was always noted as a business man of energy and correctness.It is said he had an uncle who is a clergyman of the Established Church, in Ireland.His mother and father had been dead for some years.A sister is said to have married an English nobleman."[facts per his obituary, 1875]
Charles fought the last duel at Sand Bar Ferry and was mortally wounded.He died 2 days after the duel, on Dec. 17, 1875.He is buried in Augusta, GA.
Any possible clues as to the identify of his family would be greatly appreciated.
