My father was Dr. Norwood Carlton Tilley, from Roxboro, NC. He had chronic asthma, so he did not serve active duty during WW2. What they did was put him working at an artillery shell manufacturing facility in Great Falls, SC. Ever seen WW2 movies where they show the "ack ack" anti-aircraft guns? They're the ones that fire the shells that explode in mid-air. Well, my Dad invented the tracer for those shells. That's the chemical that is ignited when the shell is fired, burns for a while, and then ignites the warhead when the shell gets up into the air.

Dr. Norwood C. Tilley, my beloved father, went home to be with Jesus in 1982.
