I'm posting the following tax lists for 1774 for Surry Co., NC which I think perhaps will help in sorting out the NC Tilley families. I found these lists in a soft bound book at the NC Archives years ago. I found it just before they were to close and I didn't have a chance to get through the whole book but this is all of the 1774 list. In 1774, Surry County would have encompassed a much larger area than present Surry Co. but it would NOT have included Orange County. Capt.
