I found the following in my Tyner/Tiner notes:
Possible Origins of Tyner/Tiner Name
derivation of German "teiner", landscaper, hedge-tender (German "teine" = "shears");derivation of "tiner", one who tins metals (German?); one who comes from Tinnen, Germany; one who lives near England's Tyne River; derivation of Russian name "Tiktiner"
Tyner Trivia - By one estimate there are about 6,000 Tyners in the US (mostly SC, NC, MS, AL, GA, OK, IN)
