Charle's father was quite important in Indiana history
F:073 FREEBORN PIERCE, born, ca.1797, in Connecticut, of Arthur(A:196) and Waite (Paine), married Jane Johnstone, 10 January 1820, at Covington, Kentucky.Freeborn built the first canal boat, the “Indiana,” in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1834.He died, ca.1867, in Cook Co., Illinois.
