Peter,
       My suggestion would be a local historical society. In the case of my family, I would donate to the Old Colony Historical Society in Taunton, MA and/or the New England Historical Society as my family spent about 300 years in Taunton and has been in MA for 350 years. If you could pinpoint a location that the family spent a number of years at, you could google the local historical society and give them a call. They may even sift through it and remove any info beyond a certain date(or generation) if you ask them.
