Dear Andrea,

The last I heard my Oakton, VA Family History Center required an appointment to use a film/fische machines. I am certain this varies by stake. Just ask them.

However when I was researching I never had a problem just walking in. The LDS members were always very nice and helpful.

I would always go for origial records first. I have not had good luck tracking down sources from 'someone says' records. Even if I can locate them they do not prove the link.
