I just found another name possibility -- Quartresols (French, of course.) It very easily could have been mis-transcribed over the years. Again, you'll have to research your own specific ancestors to see if any surnames are similar to this.

If you have access to ancestry.com, you can search names with wildcards -- try qua*t*l*s
