Hi, Sherry,

I appreciate your posts, too. I think we must have been cut from the same bolt of cloth.

I agree that errors have always existed. I agree, too, that the mess has always been there, only now we see and hear more about it. I think that part of the reason it is so widespread now is because of the kind of advertising that Ancestry does. They make it sound like all you have to do is pay their subscription fee and all of your questions will be answered with a few clicks. We both know that is not true.

Serious genealogists go after the documents. We worry with something that doesn't look right like a dog worries with a bone.

I'm far more particular about who I share my inforamtion with than I once was. That makes me a little sad because I like to share. But, when I do share, I send them only what pertains to the person they are asking about. They get the info and they get the documents. I don't ask them if they want them. It's my way of saying, "You got no excuse for not getting this right!"

I don't use a genealogy program, either. Many years ago, when there was no such thing, I developed my own format. The first genealogy programs weren't so great, anyway. By the time reliable programs were available, I figured I could spend the rest of my life putting my data into a program or I could spend my time doing what I like to do, and that's research and record.

I have made some mistakes along the way, but I corrected them and, hopefully, learned from them. I've met some really terrific folks along the way. Some people that I "met" through sending or answering a letter 25 and more years ago, are still friends today. All in all, it's been a great ride.

Happy trails,

Betty
