Farmed Out?
Posted by: Lily Furlow (ID *****4015) Date: May 30, 2011 at 19:00:04

I have ran into a situation during my research that I don't know exactly where to turn next.

In Clay County, Illinois (1890 to 1920)....several families had children that were "farmed out"....are these children being adopted? Taken in by strangers?

Are there records to look into to know where these children ended up? Or are they lost forever?

There was a case where in 1900 one girl is living in a household as a servant (in Jackson County)...the youngest boy is with a family listed as son (Wabash County)...there are 3 more children that can't be found...

the father of these children I can't find....but the mother remarries and is living at the Poor Farm and as two more children with her second husband...by 1920 she is living with her son in Christian County...she marries a third time and dies in 1936...

It's seems that I am spinning my wheels and can't move!!
I will give more details if needed :)

Can someone help me out?
