illegitimate child of married parents?
While digging away at a brick wall I discovered that my gggrandparents had a 4th child in 1849 . The birth is recorded in a town other than the one they lived in and the child is identified only
as "illegitimate child". This child also does not appear to be living with the family in the 1850 censusI can only surmise that 1) Granny and Gramps never married and all the kids were illegitimate (in CT? in the 1800's?!) or 2) Gramps was philandering and Granny was patient or 3) this was an adoption. Anyone encountered this so of record before?
