HI - I would love to know myself as well. HUM ? Gibline ? I had not seen that spelling. When I went to the Count Seat (Goshen) I did not find anything that "appeared"significant at the surrogate office but I had no leads at all on Gibline. There were some newspaper notes in the local newspaper on a possible Anna - but they were inconclusive.I went to the Port Jervis Library. What I could do next is go to Albany and check and see if there is a record for the name you suggested and see if it matches a record for Anna.
This is a complicated family - Anna's mother's life was very difficult. Anna's maternal Great Grandparents are my GGG Grandparents.I found an obit for Anna's mother and I do not believe it mentioned Anna - but I think it mentioned Charles the son.
It might be easier if you emailed me.I have another source which I can use and I'll throw some of the names form the family you mention into it and see what comes up - my email is [email protected]
Mark Brown
By the way - Melvin Brown and wife Polly ( Mary ) Salisbury Brown are the parents of Nancy Brown. Her brother Horace is my GG Grandfather.
Nancy Brown married Benjamin Trim - Cayuga CountyNY
Nancy died about 1850 leaving about? 6 kids.Benjamin Trim remarried Harriet Heath soon after.Heath would have nothing to do with the children from his first marriage. The children ranging in age from 1 or 2 to maybe 12 generally had to fend for themselves leaving home to find someone to take them in - a neighbor a relative a neighbor of a relative.Their family unit vanished.
In 1894 Nancy Brown Trim's sister Grace C. Brown passed away with a considerable amount of money which she left to the children of her siblings. The search begins - finding all of the grand children of Melvin Brown. In some cases it was easy in other not so.They thought they had it done when more came to light. The various children - now grown of course gave depositions which are not in the Schoharie County Surrogate Office.
The person accounts of the children of Nancy Brown Trim are extremely tragic and sad. There is a deposition there from Emma Spells - Anna's mother I think. If you look at the 1880 and 1900 census - it's not always clear who belongs to who. There are also children Emma Trim Spells who do not appear on the census. Two of them were institutionalized for some malady. I have a friend who also researches this family and she found some thing out that she can not tell me where she got in and neither of us can find it again so I question it - but supposedly she says there was some kind of a murder or something at the bake shop in Port Jervis.Emma's husband (Spells) WAS a baker so maybe this tale it true - but I am not going to believe it until I see it for myself.
Melvin Brown's story is also very complicated and that could be why life was so hard on Nancy Brown Trim. She and her children may have paid the price for Melvin's situation.
