There were two Georges: 1: Columbus and Margaret J. Findley Shetterly's son George W. Shetterly 3/15/1853-1/1/1928 Anderson Co., Tennessee, buried at New Hope Cemetery at the Plant entrance, Oak Ridge, Anderson Co., Tennessee; married Kessiah Frances Marshall (she is also buried at New Hope Cemetery) on 10/2/1871 Anderson Co., Tennessee. Kessiah Frances Marshall was the daughter of John and Frances Jackson Marshall who married on 10/2/1843 in Anderson Co., Tennessee. Frances Jackson was the daughter of Claiborne Jackson (born abt. 1794 VA, died after 1870 Anderson Co., TN) and his wife that some have reported as Kessiah Russell Cheek born abt. 1785 NC, died after 1850 Anderson Co., TN). George W. Shetterly's son Christian O. Shetterly married my 2nd great-grandfather's sister, Lilly Keith on 3/9/1910 Anderson Co., Tennessee. It appears Christian Shetterly may have had a first marriage in Roane Co., Tennessee to Eliza E. Manning on 7/26/1899, with one child born in Apr 1900, an unnamed son. Christian and Lilly are bured at New Hope Cemetery, as well. 2: Your George W. Shetterly who married Margaret Ann Deford on 10/16/1873 in Loudon Co., Tennessee. Since Loudon County was created from Blount, Roane and maybe other counties in 1870, and didn't have it's own county census in 1870, I looked for the Deford family and found that in 1860 Rachel Cole was living in Dist. 3, Blount Co., Tennessee with a 1 year old daughter and a 10 year old Julia Shetterly listed last in the household. This Rachel Cole married Margaret Ann Deford's brother, Mordecai E. Deford, and they are found in 1880 in Loudon Co., Tennessee in the same district as George W. Shetterly's family and other Defords. It is strong argument that they actually didn't move from one area to another, just that the area became Loudon County after it was formed. That may be a starting point for searching for your George W. Shetterly, who is undoubtedly of the same Shetterly family, since he named a son Theodore C (for Columbus?)Shetterly, and we know that George Shetterly born in 1802 had a son also named Theodore C. Shetterly. It is probable that Henry born abt. 1806 and George born 1802, as well as Phillip born abt. 1817 are all brothers. Since Frank Shetterly obviously is not a son of Columbus and Margaret J. Findley Shetterly in 1860, and appears old enough to do farmhand work in 1870 in her house after Columbus had left, leads me to believe that after Henry Shetterly's death, Mary Blalock Shetterly's household was broken up. Julia Shetterly in your George W. Shetterly's future brother-in-law's wife's household before she married a Deford is another indicator the families knew each other well. During and after the Civil War, it was about survival, being able to have the basics, which had been stolen by guerilla bands in the region during the war, because of lack of law enforcement. Just to let you know, Andrew Cole married Rachel Long on 7/9/1868 in Blount Co., Tennessee, and he may have died by 1870. I know of no reason why Julia Shetterly would be in her house in 1870 being 10 years old, except that she took her in. It is interesting the link between the Claiborne Jackson who is my George W. Shetterly's wife's grandfather and the search for your Claiborne Jackson, who may be the same person, since his wife died between 1850-1860, and he lived until after 1870.
